Private deck · For AssetMark
A complete operating layer for AssetMark’s alternatives platform.
Prepared for
David McNatt · AssetMark
From
Joe Ujobai · Aqua · AIX
Date
May 2026
Status
Working draft · for review
The proposal in one line
TAMP plus TAIP. The first full-stack program for the advisor channel.
AssetMark already operates the TAMP. The November launch — Apollo, Carlyle, KKR, StepStone — began the TAIP. Aqua and AIX complete it. Live within sixty to ninety days of partnership.
AssetMark today
The TAMP.
Twenty-plus years of turnkey infrastructure for traditional assets.
Portfolio construction across model portfolios and SMAs
Trading, rebalancing, and lifecycle automation
Consolidated reporting and unified billing
A national advisor network running on one platform
AssetMark with Aqua + AIX
The TAIP.
A turnkey alternatives investment platform under one AssetMark brand.
The four interval funds live since November, on a unified shelf
Model-driven alts allocation at the advisor desk
Subscription, signature, custody, and fund-admin routing as one workflow
Every other alternative asset class added by configuration
The advisor experience does not split. One sign-in. One model. One block, traditional and alternative. The TAIP is the second half of a program AssetMark already owns the advisor relationship for.
Where this lands
A read on what AssetMark started in November, and how the program scales from here.
McNatt asked at Tiburon to reconnect in Q1 after AssetMark’s initial launch. The launch is now live. This deck takes the conversation forward.
i
The partnership thesis
TAMP plus TAIP. How AIX and Aqua close the alternatives half of the program AssetMark already runs.
ii
Scope of the partnership
Interval funds today. Every alternative asset class on the same operating layer over time.
iii
The operating layer, in product
Ten AssetMark-branded screens. From sign-in to model allocation to order routing.
iv
A working session for Q2
Three discussion areas for a sixty-to-ninety minute session with the AssetMark wealth-solutions team.
Section i
— The partnership thesis
Turnkey for traditional. Turnkey for alternatives.
TAMPs gave wealth management a turnkey way to run traditional assets. Alternatives have never had the same standard. AssetMark already operates one half of the program. The November launch began the second. Aqua plus AIX makes that second half just as turnkey, under the AssetMark brand.
i.iThe two halves of the operating layer
i.iiEvery asset class on the same rail
i.i · Two halves, one layer
AIX runs the alts transaction stack. Aqua runs the advisor experience. Together, one operating layer.
AIX handles the transaction lifecycle, fund-administrator connectivity, custody, and document workflows. Aqua adds the advisor-facing marketplace, model-driven execution, and education. Combined: one platform, one AssetMark brand.
Advisor entry
AssetMark advisor portal · single sign-onFrom the AssetMark advisor portal. No new credentials. One session, traditional and alternative.
One unified data model across every layer. One contract. One source of truth for advisor, fund admin, custodian, and AssetMark compliance.
i.ii · Scope of the partnership
Every alternative asset class. The same operating layer.
The four November interval funds are the first set on a unified rail. Every other alternative structure runs on the same pattern. AssetMark’s gatekeeper team selects the category. The workflow ships. Adding an asset class is a configuration step, not a build cycle.

The Citywire piece in March noted AssetMark’s gatekeeper team turning focus to private-equity evergreens. Each item above represents a configuration toggle for the diligence team, not an engineering project. The partnership scales with AssetMark’s product ambition.

Trigger. Advisor clicks "Alts" in AssetMark advisor portal — or any entry tile AssetMark configures.
Mechanic. SSO carries the session. Aqua provisions on first sign-in, retains entitlements, and respects AssetMark's role / book-of-business rules.
For AssetMark. No new account management. No IT lift on the advisor side. The marketplace feels like a continuation of the AssetMark experience.
Plug-and-play activation
Identity inherits from AssetMark's existing IdP stack. No new account provisioning, no IT lift, no new credentials for the advisor. Every Aqua customer enters via SSO today.

Trigger. The AssetMark portfolio strategist team adjusts the model in their own environment ("shift 5% from Fund A to Fund B").
Mechanic. Aqua ingests the model mix via API. Computes per-account changes across every affected SMA & UMA. Generates document workflows. Notifies fund admins / TAs. Updates trade blotters.
Adoption scale. Advisor picks a strategy, not a portfolio. Each Implement triggers per-account propagation across every affected SMA and UMA — no re-papering, no manual rebalance.
Model-led adoption at scale
Roster-only adoption hits an advisor-choice ceiling. Model-led adoption routes through portfolio strategy rather than individual fund selection. Same conditional logic, same e-sign, same routing as Funds — one click implements across every affected SMA and UMA.

AssetMark's diligence team owns the approved list end-to-end. Expanding into a new asset class is a single toggle — every existing-platform fund in that category becomes available instantly. Net-new managers onboard during the standard build cycle.

Diligence-controlled product shelf · new asset classes by toggle, not by build
Trigger. AssetMark's diligence team approves a fund category (e.g. DSTs). One toggle in admin.
Mechanic. Most of the products are already on the platform — Aqua covers ~80% of the active DST market today. Net-new funds onboard during Phase 1 build.
For AssetMark. Tight diligence control, instant expansion. The marketplace grows without engineering tickets.
Flip a switch, turn new asset classes on
Interval-fund roster ships at launch. DSTs, BDCs, REITs, and private placements toggle on category by category as AssetMark's diligence completes each. Aqua already administers ~80% of the active DST market — most additions are instant; the rest run through a standard onboarding cadence.

What is shown. Six representative tiles. The launch shelf holds 30–50 products at go-live.
What every card includes. Sponsor, fund name, security type, single Begin CTA — and a dropdown for "Start Purchase" vs "View Materials" (data room).
For AssetMark. Same UX for every product, regardless of issuer size or fund category.
Why this works
One pane of glass for an advisor. No second portal, no email-attached PPM. The Begin button kicks off the same workflow on every fund — Phase 1 ships exactly this view.
Marketplace Preview · Product overview & data room
One product page. Every document.
Each fund card opens into a full data room — PPM, fact sheet, decks, historicals. Sponsors upload; Aqua tracks access; advisors send to clients without leaving the platform.
Sponsor side. Fund managers upload any materials they want — PPMs, fact sheets, decks, historicals, quarterly reports. Aqua tracks who opens what.
Advisor side. "Send Materials" mails the docs directly to a client or prospect, with a secure link. No off-platform attachments, no PPM emailed and lost.
For AssetMark. Education and diligence content sit alongside the marketplace experience — on a tab AssetMark controls, not a sponsor marketing page.
Secure, tracked, configurable
Sponsors see what is being read in real time. Advisors send to clients in a single click. AssetMark controls the separation between product info and education content — both live inside the marketplace, both on AssetMark-controlled surfaces.
Marketplace Preview · Boutique easy button
Boutique alts — same easy button.
Boutique managers ride the same data model, conditional logic, e-sign, and fund-admin routing as the largest issuers. Data flows directly into AssetMark's portfolio accounting — same standard, regardless of fund size.

Boutique and major issuers on the same shelf · the same 4-step easy button on every fund
Trigger. Advisor clicks Begin on a boutique alt fund — same flow as Blackstone or KKR.
Mechanic. Aqua builds a custom data model for every product on the platform. Boutique funds get the same conditional logic, e-sign, fund admin routing, and clean data hand-off to portfolio accounting as the largest issuers.
Portfolio accounting. Same shape of data lands in AssetMark's books regardless of fund size. No bespoke build per manager. As the boutique-alts segment grows, the data model stays clean and reconciliation stays automated.
Operational scale across the boutique segment
The easy-button workflow is fund-size agnostic. Same conditional logic, same NIGO prevention, same direct integrations to fund admins / TAs / custodians. The portfolio-accounting data model is identical whether the fund is $50B or $50M — segment growth does not add ops headcount.
Subscription forms auto-populate from AssetMark's investor record. Inline validation prevents the wrong purchase amount, the wrong share class, the wrong tax ID. The advisor cannot trigger the error that creates a NIGO downstream.
Select an investor account. Auto-populated from AssetMark CRM.

New Buy Order · CRM-prefilled · conditional warnings in real time
Auto-population. Investor account, custodian (AssetMark Trust Company), and KYC details flow from AssetMark's investor record — advisor does not re-type.
Conditional logic. Aqua holds a unique data model per product. Wrong amount, wrong share class, wrong tax ID, wrong entity name — the form catches it before the advisor moves on.
For AssetMark. NIGOs — the rework-loop driver in alts ops — are eliminated at input.
NIGO elimination at input
Conditional logic catches the most common subscription errors at input — wrong amount, wrong share class, wrong tax ID, wrong entity. Email-based subscription workflows convert these into rework loops; in-platform validation closes the loop at the source.

Single source of truth. Investor, advisor, KYC docs, fund admin, custodian, current stage — one page. Status pills show who has the pen.
Account binding. AssetMark Trust Company is bound on the right rail. Every transaction is anchored to a specific custodial account by design.
For AssetMark. Compliance + advisor + ops all see the same thing. 17a-4 record-keeping happens automatically.
One page of record per order
Compliance, advisor, and ops see the same view of every order. Status pills show who has the pen. 17a-4 record-keeping requirements are satisfied automatically. The email + spreadsheet patchwork of conventional alts ops is replaced by a single workflow tracker.
Marketplace Preview · Document vault integration
One DocuSign package. Routed everywhere it belongs.
When the order completes, the final document package flows automatically — to AssetMark's internal vault, to the fund admin / TA, to the trade blotter. One source of truth, all destinations notified.
One completion event · multi-destination routing · integrations are config, not custom
Trigger. Order moves to "Complete" — all signatures gathered, all docs validated.
Mechanic. Aqua pushes the finished package to every destination AssetMark configures — internal vault, fund admin/TA, custody system, and broker-dealer 17a-4 archives.
For AssetMark. The internal vault becomes the canonical source. Advisor and client can also pull from Aqua. No off-platform document chasing.
Configurable destination routing
Aqua integrates with whatever data vault AssetMark uses for finished documents. Deposit is automatic on order completion. Counterparty integrations (fund admin / TA / custody / 17a-4 archive) ship with the platform — no custom build.

Implementation
Sixty to ninety days to live capability. One contract. One data model.
An internal build is a multi-year engineering roadmap. A multi-vendor stitch is twelve months of integration and a permanent reconciliation tax. Aqua and AIX is one signing, one contract, one data model — live in sixty to ninety days on AssetMark’s brand, with the four launch funds in production from day one.
Internal build
24+
Months to live capability
Roadmap competes with traditional-asset priorities. Engineering, compliance, fund-admin connectivity, custody integration, document orchestration, advisor UX — each a distinct project. Ongoing platform-team headcount once live.
Multi-vendor stitch
12
Months to live capability
Marketplace, transaction stack, fund-admin integration, custody routing, e-signature, and document vault sourced from separate providers. A permanent reconciliation tax across surface and back-office.
Aqua + AIX partnership
60—90
Days to live capability
Single contract. Single operating layer. The four launch funds in production from day one. AIX infrastructure already powering full-lifecycle alts processing across the wealth-tech ecosystem; Aqua adds the advisor-facing layer on top.
AIX administers the complete transaction stack for fund administrators, broker-dealers, and RIAs across alternative investments today. The integration with AssetMark is a configuration of the AssetMark brand, the AssetMark diligence record, and the AssetMark advisor identity. The infrastructure is not being built. The infrastructure exists.
Q2 working session
Three discussion areas for the working session proposed in October.
McNatt asked at Tiburon to reconnect in Q1 after the launch. The launch is live. Proposed: a sixty-to-ninety minute working session with the AssetMark wealth-solutions team in Q2, on the three extensions below.
i.
Extending the shelf.
Sequencing additional categories — private-equity evergreens, BDCs, DSTs, structured products — into the AssetMark diligence pipeline. Boutique and emerging managers onto the same shelf as the four launch funds.
ii.
Model-driven alts at the advisor desk.
Extending AssetMark’s model-portfolio architecture into alternatives. One model change, executed per-account across every affected SMA and UMA. The structural unlock for the existing advisor base.
iii.
Productizing the gatekeeper function.
Equipping AssetMark’s diligence team with admin-level controls — asset-class toggles, manager onboarding patterns, guardrail configuration — that scale the gatekeeper function without scaling headcount.
